Bobbie, we've had many nude studies, ever since I've been on the site - they weren't a problem apart from some I remember from a visitor from the Deviant Art website, who featured sexualized images - bondage, principally; they weren't even good, which exacerbated the problem a bit.  To some extent Jack Vettriano painted a few very suggestive images; he did it a lot better, but I think one or two might have been out of place here.  But then - he didn't show them here; Turner and Rembrandt produced some explicit pictures too.  Artists do that - especially young artists, exploring their boundaries and curiosity.  Most have enough basic common sense to know where they're appropriate and where they're not. The recent issue - those images were on the whole quite well done, but weren't anything you'd find emerging from a life class; and there were other issues in that case, too.  They could have been resolved, but for the confrontational problems that arose.  You need have no fear that anyone here is poised to censor nudes just because they're nudes: which is just repeating what Dixie has said, but you might find the confirmation reassuring.  The moderators are a broad-minded lot - all of us well aware of the place of life drawing in the history and practice of art.
Thank you, Robert, for your reassuring words.   I've seen some of Turner's more explicit sketches one one of Fiona Bruce and Bendor Grosvenor's BBC art history programmes; ditto a recent series about Picasso's life on BBC4 - and I agree these would definitely not be appropriate for the POL Gallery!  I've been busy lately and church projects have kept me away from POL for the last few weeks, so I've missed the issues (and confrontational problems?) which started this debate.  I enjoy life drawing, and have found it helpful when it comes to including (clothed) figures in some of my landscapes - so I hope my common sense (and finely tuned Churchwarden's sensibilities) will be enough! Thank you Dawn, Dixie and all involved in managing POL.  You do a fine job.
