Not been on here for a while, not picked up a brush or a pencil...life a bit of a bugger.
Just had a read and a look at the gallery some nice work.
Several new members...welcome. But I have noticed that some new people have not done a profile. It’s a great way to get to know someone, who you are ,where you are from what turns you on....painting wise.
Also noticed that some lovely paintings are not being given their credence. I do.iike to know size, medium etc and bit of a description. I also it’s a courtesy thing....come on you newbies 🌻

I’ve always felt that size and medium should be mandatory, the system should stop you posting without this information. As for artists without profiles, I think they are not taking this seriously ... or perhaps they have something to hide. In any event I don’t comment on their pictures or click their like button.

I haven't put anything on my profile because as a rule I generally don't give out private info. But don't go thinking everyone who doesn't put anything on their profile has things to hide. My wife and I restrict very severely what we show about ourselves on the internet. We were involved in a financial identity theft with multiple loan applications and mail order goods and it has left us very wary. You'd be surprised how easy it is for a fraudster to phone up and get an address changed. Thereafter you don't know there is a problem until a debt collection agency starts threatening you!
It took 7 years (yes seven) to, hopefully, finish with it! I won't go into all the details here but believe me it was not fun.

I agree with the comments re further info when posting work and have often asked for clarification of the medium used: also like to know the size. When you post there is a section to complete re medium but that doesn’t appear when viewing.
Steve, I’m also quite private about what I post about myself and this is as near I get to using social media.

That’s dreadful Steve I am so sorry.
My profile on this site has no personal details . It purely gives a bit of info re my art history. It isn’t anything anyone could take pertinent information from .
Not trying to bore you all but this is it....don’t know why there are funny amp like additions....sadly the powers that be have removed my profile pic,, must have been when they re vamped the site last year.
Sylvia Evans. I am mainly a self taught artist, though I did spend a year at Rochdale School of Art in the late 1950’s. I was then made to get a “Proper Job” by my father, so I spent the next few years in a nursing career. I married and had a family, just picking up a pencil to amuse my children on occasion.  Then in the late 1980s I was an ex pat wife in Hong Kong with time to play.  I joined an untutored life drawing class, and a Chinese brush painting group (though I never got beyond Bamboo).  I have had three solo exhibitions in north Wales venues; I have exhibited in Y Capel Llangollen by invitation. Patchings Art Festival Nottinghamshire. The Royal Cambrian Conwy, Theatre Clwyd in Mold and corporate offices in Chester. I have paintings in private collections in the U K, U S A, Hong Kong, Greece and Australia. I spent some time with a small charity “Families for Children Zambia” working in compounds in both Lusaka and Ndola in Zambia, with pots of paint, brushes and paper and hoards of very deprived and vulnerable children having fun with art.

That's an interesting history Sylvia, certainly well travelled! I've cut my profile down to the bare bones, but it wasn't always this brief...
''Having studied fine art, printmaking and graphic design at both Stafford and Derby college, my career working as a graphic designer and latterly as editorial artist with Northcliffe Media Ltd (Mail Group), has helped to kept me in touch with all aspects of art and design.
Painting mainly in oils, but also enjoy acrylics and watercolour, my aim is to maintain and develop a loose impressionistic style which I try to portray in my landscape and architectural paintings.
Now retired and away from the stress of deadlines, I have plenty of time to pursue my life-long hobby and continue to experiment with different techniques, medium and subjects.
A four-time award winner at the TAPC Open Annual Competition, and more recently a regular feature writer for 'The Artist' magazine.''
Like many of us on here, I'm also interested in reading a bit about an artists background. As for not including the size and medium on a posted work, well why would you not want to include this important information? Yes, it should be mandatory as Alan M suggested earlier.
When the new site was revamped, this was requested, along with reducing the number of daily postings, limiting it to either one or two, which was the general consensus of opinion at the time. However, the designers went ahead and did their own thing to a great extent, one of the reasons that we had so many issues on its relaunch last year. These have now largely been sorted out!
On a different point, I've just noticed that I've now posted 500 works on the gallery! Here's to the next 500...

I completely agree about putting on details of the artwork, although I must admit to sometimes forgeting about sizes, mainly as I'm posting away from the work and haven't measured up first!
Re the profile, yes I know most of what is put on couldn't be used directly and perhaps I should revisit this but I am a bit paranoid about the subject! But be careful what you post as the fraudsters do not start with the profile, this would be background info they would be looking for, having obtained your name and address by other means.

Trouble is, they may give information when they post a new picture, in all the categories offered - but that's of little use to us who see the uploaded work, because that information doesn't come across to us. So they might think they've told us what the measurements are (not that this is a required field anyway) or the medium in which it was created, and much else. But while that helps the system categorize work so that we can see, eg, how many oil paintings have been offered on the site, it doesn't appear anywhere on the individual posting. It's frustrating, because we then have to guess the medium. On profiles - even just giving your name out on the web can lead to identity theft; but it's wise to keep any sort of personal or other professional connections out of it; and the same certainly applies to the den of iniquity that is Facebook.
