Thanks for posting another of Elizabeth Lew - what a girl!!
Yes, she is.  Pity her career practically ended when she got married.  Apparently it was bad form for an upper-class wife to have a career of her own. Now for something completely different...the British artist Maggi Hambling... Above...Francis Bacon. Above...Max Wall, the comedian. Above...George Melly, the jazz singer.
Just found something about the slow loading.  When I clicked on Peter's post above (on the latest page 6 of this thread), it came up immediately, so did my post about Maggi Hambling on the same post.  So I tried loading  pages 1 and 2...they came up instantly.  But pages 3 to 5 are still ponderously slow...they all had spam removed.  So Paul was right.
Just to be sure all is sorted now - I restored Heather's post: it's either on page 3 or 4.  Heather is able to get back into the thread, I think - if not, then admin will be able to sort it; but I think all is now back to normal.
Yes, back in, many thanks Robert
There's another portrait by Hambling of Max Wall - with Ondie (I think) her cat; it's better I think than the one shown, if anyone can find it.
Apologies to the cat, her name was Onde.  This portrait better shows Max's gentleness, I think.
Yes, I chose a poor photo of the Max Wall painting.  Can't seem to find a decent one of that painting.   It seems that in the 80's she had an exhibition of her Max Wall paintings and photos at the National Portrait Gallery.  Here's the poster for it... ...a slightly better image of the poster painting.  Max Wall in 'Waiting for Godot'... Apparently there were a lot of photos too.  Here's one, both Maggi and  Max were premium league cigarette smokers... Found a slightly better image for my first pic...
Excellent character portraits, and I love Roberts with cat!
Love the one with the cat, Onde.
I really like these Maggie Hamblin portraits, they are a perfect demonstration of capturing the spirit of the sitter, the sad face of the clown comes to mind.
Robert’s with cat is just so brilliant on every level! If only I’d painted that…
