Ye gods, here we go again.  How often is this turkey going to make an appearance?   Someone fiddles with a photo for ten minutes and posts it, that's not digital art.  Digital art requires graft to master the software, when that's done he/she has the usual problems of composition, perspective, colour choice, inspiration, and they suffer the same dissappointments and successes as every artist in any medium.  It's art.  And it's painting in my book.  When I did it I got all the same feelings I get from conventional mediums.  There are some fabulous artists using digital, and many more not-so fabulous artists working hard in digital to make the best art they can.  Just like the rest of us. But let's get pedantic.  It's not smearing paint on a surface, so let's not call it painting.  Let's stick it somewhere where the sun don't shine. While we're at it, let's do a proper job.  Drawing isn't painting, neither is pastel.  Collage, lino-cuts, block printing, and other processes I can't remember aren't 'painting' either.  Let's stick them all in seperate folders, so the 'real' painters don't have to soil their eyes looking at it. I know there are forum users who understand and respect digital art, but it seems there are more who at best see it as 'not painting' and at worst see it as the domain of cheats.  So let's put all these non paintings in their own little boxes. Better still, let's NOT.  Let's leave things as they are and respect all efforts to make art in any medium.  You can't like everything, you don't have to comment on work you don't like.  But this won't happen will it?  Next week, next month, the Luddites will be back chasing out the old turkey that digital is not painting. This happens in the forum, you don't get it in the gallery...people don't comment on stuff they don't like...not much, anyway.  So I'm going to opt-out of the forum and take refuge in the gallery.  I was going to respond to this last night, but felt so annoyed I thought I'd step back and leave it 'til today.  Still annoyed.  An over-the-top response?  Maybe.  A tantrum?  Maybe.  But art is important to me, and this response is sincerely felt. Dixie...you'd better delete the artists I suggested for your thread...I won't be doing them. I wish you all well. Goodbye forum.
Sadly there goes on of the nicest people on this forum . I feel quite sad that Lew has felt the need to stop using the forum and hope that he will reconsider at some point and  continue to post his excellent artwork. I will miss you input Lew .
A simple request.  Lew, do not abandon the forum.  Let us exchange ideas, let us agree, let us disagree.  It doesn't mean we disrespect or dislike the person, we just don't agree on the opinions.  The world would be a poorer place if we were all of the same view, just as this forum will be a poorer place without the likes of Lewis Cooper.
I seem to have the knack of causing trouble where none was intended. I'm going to stop posting and hope Lewis will reconsider - I'm a huge fan of his work and the last thing I wanted to do was upset him.  Peter
There is no reason for you to stop posting Michal unfortunately it the knock on effect . Do continue to contribute as the more people that share their view etc the better the discussions. It seems that as the Royal family is in turmoil,  it’s having a effect on other family’s such as our art family here on the forum . Let’s just get on with doing our artwork and enjoying doing and sharing it.
I agree with Tony entirely and hope Lewis reconsiders. Also Peter, you should continue to post.
Totally understand Lewis’s comments - but hope he reconsiders his intention to leave the forum.  As Tony says, it would be a poorer place without him.  His is always the voice of reason.

I am doing the same as you, Lewis, the difference is, you will truly be missed.
You input will be missed as well Carol , I hope that you change your mind and continue to join in the discussion everyone’s view is important .
You shouldn't go either Carol. All voices and opinions are important. No one should lose their voice in a discussion. I hope you also reconsider.
Perhaps 'Art On Line' rather than POL would be a more suitable title for the site?
I don’t think the original discussion dissed digital painting in any way. Nor did it make any suggestion that it was less worthy than any other medium. That’s how I read it anyway.
