The fact that the painting was sold for a lot of money and helped a good cause doesn't make it a better painting.  As for the doors, that sounds like bullshit covering up for not being able to draw them properly! Sorry, just my opinion as ever.

It's all a bit like the old chestnut, what is art? Peter. One thing I've learned over the years is that everything created is art. Good art or bad art, art it is, and the folly is often with the beholder (Guilty your honour because nobody makes us like it.) Yes, there are charlatans who exploit that fact, but it goes far beyond pretty pictures and personal likes and dislikes. I'm certainly no Emmin lover and you won't find me in any queues for her work, even free entry,  but the comforting thing is that I have the choice to be or not to be, as everyone has. Her "art" is what Jewish humour would describe as "Chuzpah". Not worth losing any sleep over.  ie brass-faced.
And we all need a bit of chutzpah.
And we all need a bit of chutzpah.

Adopting a slightly more sober view of this "commission", it all seems very unspontaneous  and more "what shall I do next? with a made-up theme". I understand commission work is a living for some artists and my views as ever, are just mine, but the whole thing seems a bit false and unnecessary with more than a hint of "What Tracy did next" about it. Obviously, some areas have money to burn.. Speaking of which...https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66036688
Imagine what it would have been worth if he'd painted her neck properly!!
I followed your link Jim.  My flabber has been ghasted again.  £85 million for a painting???  I admire Klimt's work, but we're off into the realms of la la land with these prices.  The art market and establishment is stark raving mad.
The art market is all about hedge funds and investment - I hope someone will appreciate the Klimt as a painting, rather than as a financial asset; perhaps they will.  More likely, it won't be seen again until it next appears on the market.
They could have had one of mine for 84 million. The sad thing is that galleries and museum can't compete with those prices. I also can't help thinking how much good this individual could have done in the world by spending their 85 million differently.

It is a rather lovely painting and apparently the last portrait he painted before his death.  Even so, the mind boggles at the price it fetched!  Apparently it was bought by a collector in Hong Kong.
I.m hoping for a commission to adorn the doors from our local liquid establishment. It's based on  Tap Room Toreadors  of the past. One shot Walt was a wrestler and Vincent (Van) Vape fancied himself as a bit of an artist ( Most agreed, but not at painting). Elvis's "half" meant half-a-dozen.The others are sort of self-explanatory. The doors will be engraved plastic as it has no weigh-in value if nicked. The colour will be a sort of Suet pudding grey. Wish me luck..(-:

Go for it Jim, when it's in place we'll organise another coach trip. I bet Lewis could do a good one too. It is a lovely portrait but I still think her neck is far too long. If I do that I'm a bad painter, if he does it he's a genius doing it deliberately. Can't win can we.
