Really looks good Paul. I’m impressed at the speed that you produced this with.  I admit, mine took a bit longer, but only because I did it in 4 sessions - allowing time for each to dry completely. 1 was washes for the sky and water, 2 was the buildings and the bridge, 3 was the boats and 4 the darkest areas. I suppose it took about an hour in all, with plenty of time for tea, coffee, lunch, reading a book and watching TV in between. I also spent 30 minutes sketching another cafe scene in outline. Not sure what I’m going to do with it yet - I’ll make my mind up tomorrow or the next day.
I’ve posted the Camber Sands garden sketch into the gallery, and wow! 1 like and 8 lovely comments so far - really quickly too. I’m a bit astonished to be honest, as I didn’t think it was that great. Just goes to show that I’m no judge.
It’s a super picture Paul! Glad you put it on the gallery. It is full of great character!
Thanks Gillian.
Here’s my outline sketch for my next cafe drawing/painting. It on A4 cartridge paper - I’m still trying to decide how to finish it. I’ll probably just add watercolour, but need to think through the best approach.
By the way, it’s from a photo that I took earlier in the year on a trip to Brussels. I think the lady in the bottom right is think, “Have you seen the prices?”.
Just watching the final part of Sky Arts Portrait of the year drawing the ballet dancer Carlos Acosta. I’ve tried to keep the pencil sketch loose and don’t feel I’ve got a good likeness but tricky from the tv.
Looks good to me Tessa. I’ve still got to catch with the programme - thanks for the reminder.
Thanks Paul. I recorded it and may well watch again if only to see Acosta dancing-wonderful!
Great sketches Paul and Tessa. I did a quick charcoal sketch. I did another sketch it's not a very good sketch, it's more an idea for a painting. Sometimes the ideas take a terrible long time, then the concept of the sketch, just a few minutes. I won't put my really bad sketch on because it is really just an idea, not really a sketch.

I like the mountains Denise, I think that could make a really good painting. I have another scribble style portrait this evening, again with mostly keeping the pencil moving on the paper.
Great mountains Denise and, Tessa, I really like “scribble” sketches and this is a good one.
