As usual, this started out as a drawing exercise in my sketch book. Then I made the mistake of deciding to throw some watercolour at it with the usual results that some parts went well and some didn’t. It’s from a photo again - this time taken a couple of years ago in Rye.

Thanks Gillian. A great quick sketch. I like the thought of going into the garden and sketching what’s there. Mine take a little longer - about an hour and a bit - unless I get lost, which is always possible. I spent an hour this afternoon completing the first half of a sketch from an old photo, I’ll complete the second half tomorrow, but it should much simpler and quicker. Is it still a sketch, or is it a drawing? I don’t know. Maybe, I’m overdoing it.

I don't know the difference between a sketch and a drawing but I've done a couple of sketches/drawings from imagination this evening. They are very brief as I intend to do paintings from them, which will have much more detail and hopefully better perspective, when my full concentration is on it.

They’re looking good Denise. I look forward to seeing the paintings.
I’ve just finished my effort today. As I said, the first half took an hour. The second half was quicker - probably because I’d had a couple of drinks. Anyway, here it is. I’m not doing any more on this., but I may turn this into a painting later too.

Some more lovely work Paul and Denise. Re the interesting discussion on sketching/drawing, I always understood sketching to be generally looser, freer and probably less complete, whereas a drawing is more likely to be more detailed and/or complex. If you say details of something are sketchy, it means incomplete and possibly a bit vague. I suppose either could be used to go on to a painting, partly depending on your style. Well that’s my two pennorth for this morning. Busy day ahead, but will try to do a sketch, or even a drawing later! 🎄🤞
