Watching now Norrette. Very enjoyable.
Interesting that the usual 3 +1 colours were reduced to just two plus white.
Indeed, not seen that done before, but I suppose it’s a good exercise in learning how to mix your colours. So, it worked as a demo, to an extent, but I don’t feel that it’s necessary to restrict your palette to that degree! The first portrait demo we saw used 4 colours, in fact I believe it was the Zorn palette, I’ve got it saved so I can check. That, to me, is the bare minimum. It’s a great series of programmes so far, something for the relative beginner as well as the more experienced… the dog portrait was excellent as well, a very confident delivery!
Agreed! The portraitist hammered home the importance of tone - you can paint bananas blue, pears red etc and all is credible if the tones are right.
Marjorie, you proclaim the certitude of one convinced of an immutable truth! I sense YOUR sense of triumph and - I think you're right.
My eyes were glued to the tv for 3 hours and I also thought it was an excellent pet portrait. Can't wait to see what tomorrow's masterclass brings.
I wonder how many episodes there are…
The one thing which disappointed me a little re the pet portrait was the shortening of line down from the head. I would have liked a longer stroke. At least the head wasn’t cut off at the neck ( I didn’t think for a minute she would do that). So many pet portraits are spoiled imo by this “ beheading”.
Am thoroughly enjoying the series as well.  Also the BBC Renaissance: The Blood and the Beauty is a fantastic 3 part production
I agree Marjorie, I feared the floating head!  I think there's 40 in all, it certainly continues next week.  And yes Alan, if it was Zorn I really like the first (Sara Reeves) portrait, so few brushstrokes, yet a great likeness. I haven't started on the Renaissance yet, Heather, it's in my recorded queue

I also would have liked to see a bit more of his body!
