Hang on Studio Wall

I popped into the National Portrait Gallery for an hour I had spare before going to the Pinter theatre on Monday. I specifically wanted to see the new Joshua Reynolds acquisition.  I was a little disappointed as it’s over 2 metres high, and I couldn’t see any details.  It’s no wonder people take photographs.  I’ll take binoculars next time. Anyway it’s his Portrait of Mai (Omai), c. 1776 continued (as I'm having trouble posting this)...1/3
2/3 At the entrance you’re greeted by a small array of busts.  This one caught my eye.  It’s of Christopher Nevinson by Barney Seale in 1930.  I’ve pushed the light a bit , so it’s a much darker bronze than this, but you can see the detail.  Very Beethoven like in my opinion. Continued...
3/3 But of course, I couldn’t leave without taking a photograph of the door The edges on all of the brasses are very sharp, so I guess it’s no surprise that the cleaners left their Brasso trace behind… 😊 In summary, the hang is not so bad, but I think you need a map to help you find what you are looking for (and to hunt down the actual century you want) as the rooms are given contextual names rather than eras. Many pictures are behind glass and reflections are a problem...did I say the hang is not so bad?...well, it could be better. Ends
Glad someone has actually seen them Norrette ..   waste of good bronze in my northern opinion.  Thanks for the pictures.    Anyone been to the Summer exhibition this year?
Nothing can change the fact that these "works of art" in substance are nothing more than amateurish scrawls. This isn't kicking Tracy Emin, just the nonsense that elevates it to "art" beyond a level which could be achieved by most secondary school art classes.  As you were..(-:

As I’ve said previously in this post, I’m fine with them!  They aren’t supposed to be highly finished detailed portraits - they are engraved in bronze, which in itself creates a number of restrictions as to the complexity of the initial artwork!

I couldn't resist sketching the bust after looking it up Norrette. Hope you don't mind.
Not at all. Great sketch, Jim.

There's nothing wrong with expressing opinions (obviously) but you're misusing the word "fact" in your remark  "Nothing can change the fact that these "works of art" in substance are nothing more than amateurish scrawls".  I'm genuinely curious as to what you regard as 'proper' drawing ie what exactly qualifies these as amateurish scrawls. I also can't help wondering what kind of reception artists like Picasso would have received on these forums back in the day!
