Seeing things that are not there - I thought that was delirium tremens....
Look long enough at, e.g., a clump of leaves (he said, more seriously) or those Cumulus clouds in the sky, or the depths of a fire, especially a coal fire, and you'll certainly see shapes that coalesce to make a face, maybe an object - because that's the way our brains work, apparently: we look for patterns, things that make sense to us. I've taken advantage of these now and then - i.e. drawn or painted something suggested by a pattern my brain has imposed on random objects. The snag arises when you suddenly see things that should NOT be there in your own work - eg a rock formation which looks like your grandad having a snooze; a cliff with a nose; a cloud shaped like the honey-monster - all of which I've found in my own stuff, and others' work. Not so bad if you spot them before the paint dries - a bit of a pain if you don't.
