As you quite rightly say Lew, the fonts can be changed at any stage prior to publication.
You’ve selected a sans face, but have you had a look at some serif fonts? Might be worth a try.
Times New Roman is the obvious one for the body copy, Garamond is another.
These are very easy to read, particularly when you have a lot of copy, which I realise you haven’t.

I know both of those fonts. Forgotten about them. That's why it's good to get input from trusted others. I've been dabbling with fonts, trying them on a sample page. As most will know this is not a chore, just a few clicks. I find it interesting. Here's a few...first GARAMOND.
Now QUARK LIGHT
Now SEGOE UI
Now VERDANA
And TIMES NEW ROMAN
The fact is, I'm spoilt for choice. I'll set the Font aside for now. It won't be my sole decision...the author, my son and anothers are involved. I suspect if I get the 'hots' for a font that's what we'll go for. (unless it's revolting of course...I have those moments).
Sorry to bore possible readers with this font marlarky, but I find it interesting...and necessary... but I'll step away from it until all the drawings are done.

Fonts are not a bore, it’s all very interesting. The font is very important because it gives the feeling, power, grace and so on within the subject and story. It’s not a fancy whim. Typography is an art and important in story telling, advertising, posters and many other types graphic works. Off the top of my head i do not think the computer in general has given an understanding and proper use of fonts. That would be because in general people have little knowledge of typography. Of course tell me if I am wrong.

John is so right, and he knows his stuff…
It’s such a personal choice, but actually it’s a very important decision to make…get it horribly wrong and the book will be less easy to read and not so appealing on the eye!
I do like that Garamond test page Lew, pure class, as is the Times Roman of course…
For a sans serif font, that Quark light does look a bit good I must say.
Headings can often have more impact if reversed out in a strip of black or colour. Sometimes the strip bleeding off one side of the page. Obviously the text will show as white. Worth exploring! A sans serif font may have more impact on the heading.
These are only my opinions of course, but I don’t give this advice without a certain degree of expertise gained over the decades…
It’s such an interesting thread for me, but I didn’t want to influence anyone - I’m sure that I won’t!

Thanks for the great input everybody. If I’m honest I like all the fonts in my last post, at this moment Segoe and Garamond are favourites. (I’ve looked at many others I haven’t bothered to post here.). Plenty of time for that choice to be made.
Robert, I won’t belittle Comic Sans. I use it a lot in my cartoons, especially in speech bubbles. It suits them I think, but it’s all personal opinion anyway. I won’t be using it on this occasion.

I understand that you can't give the story yet as it's not yours, but I'm getting a good feel for it through your wonderful illustrations. Please keep them coming. However, are you able to let on who Agnes is or was or will that become clear later? I liked all of the fonts you illustrated, nice and clear for those of us who don't have perfect eyesight.

I've done some more drawings, and have started assembling the book in the app supplied by the photobook printer. It's easy to change things, and gives a clear idea of how the book will look. As I've been trying different fonts etc, it needed tidying up. In my previous art books, I've only had the odd line of text. Mostly I gave it a central text justification, because I thought it looked better. Not so with this one, so I've given all the text left justification, and it looks better for it. I've decided, for now, to use the Garamond font, and will use the same size on all the pages. Having divided the original story script into pages, I've had a look at those that MIGHT be problematical. I don't want to keep adding pages unless it needs it.
Here's one I've done slightly out of sequence...
...seems OK.
With these photobooks it's possible to have the image go right to the edge of the page. In an earlier book (I've done about nine over the years), I tried a few pages where the image extended to the edges, and didn't like it. These days I make a border - a kind of safety margin if you like -the black border above represents this. It's all choices. I've used black here because it suits the dark storyline. It can be changed, maybe left white. For the moment, I prefer black.
I'll carry on carrying on. I'll have to watch out for typos...thought I'd done that in my tidy up, but I've missed a few. Should be Henry VIII in the above, I normally spot typos AFTER I’ve posted things. Ho hum. Early days yet.

I like the Garamond type face, and range left is a good choice.
I’m also less keen on the black, or any border if I’m honest, but I trust in Lew’s judgement. Perhaps a 1pt line might work!
Darn good illustration of course… that’s never in doubt!
This is a great project to keep you focused!
