I set my self the challenge of sketching an elephant in less than twenty minutes, clocked off at eighteen minutes thirty seconds, it’s not the time that I’m trying to beat it’s how detailed and how quick can I do it in. I used a 7B pencil and a putty rubber.
Some tree studies I’m planning a mini series of woodland scenes and want to have different shapes and sizes of tree to select from. The first is a old hawthorn hedge that has been neglected for many years, hence the leggy growth, the second is in progress sketch of a fallen decaying tree, this if from a photo Sylvia sent me from one of her walks with Sam .
Sketches that I did in preparation for ‘Further Along the Lane’. Sorry, I’ve never done this before and I don’t know if I’m doing this correctly or how to turn the pictures!

I'm sending you the bill for my physiotherapist - you've put my neck out.....  Not entirely true: in fact, dirty big fat lie..   I take it you're using an Ipad or some similar infernal device: I'm told (I can't make mine work and I've just put it into cold storage where it might well stay) that if you take a picture in landscape or portrait format, that's the way it will show on a screen.  That you need to save the photograph to some kind of photo-editing software, and then, well, edit it.   Others more familiar with and expert in these devices (which I believe were invented just to annoy an older generation) would be able to advise you better, but I think if you were to download this to a pc you could ensure it was up the right way.  What do you do if you don't have a pc?  Ah - there you have me.   Anyway, there is much potential in your sketches for two good paintings, and well done for getting outside and drawing from life.
Julie , save the photo to your iPad , open the edit function at the top of the scene , you will se this appear . Press the square at the bottom on the left side with arrows and a yellow dot , this lets you crop the photo to any site you want . At the top is a box with a single arrow, press this to get the photo into the orientation you want each click move it one turn . The correct way up .
Now young Robert just stop yer moaning and get a ten year old to show you how to use the iPad,   It’s Very simples as they say . I think you would find it useful if you were to give it a couple of day playing around and trying it out , but don’t lock yourself out this time .
Lovely sketches Julie! I think a few of us struggle with uploading at first- I certainly did, not having cropped and saved first. 🤓
Thank you very much Robert, Paul and Tessa. I should have asked my 8 year old grandson to do it for me! I don’t use an iPad to post my art work, just my iPhone. The pictures were already cropped on the phone so I was surprised that they uploaded on their sides. I’m much happier with pen or brush. 🥴

Paul - I've locked myself out of the damn' thing, and I fear that if I lose my temper with it again, I'll just stamp it to death...... The 8 year old suggestion is a good one, though.
