Well spotted Sandra, here is the other sketch. It is off one snowdrop using charcoal pencils on Strathmore toned paper

Excellent work there Alan . I’ve been lazy and sketched as much then I forgot to post some , so here is a few days worth. First sketch was done using water soluble pencil and a small brush with clean water. My challenge was to sketch without removing the pencil from the paper, some lines were overlapped . Done last nigh along with the above challenge, this time had to sketch the boats in under ten minutes preferably around eight , about seven minutes Used a  brush pen for the drawing a d shade was with a 6B pencil.

I came across a unused A5 landscape sketch pad yesterday when rummaging through some old boxes, surprising what you find . I decided to use it for landscape sketches if I use a bigger pad I tend to add more than I need , the A5 will restrict what details I put on the paper. I will also try to get into the habit in better weather of going to find something worth sketching, these two were from photo and completed in around fifteen minutes each . The A4 is the basic sketch for a painting of a derelict building that I’m bringing back to life.
Excellent potential, both of these Paul!
What’s on the easel? Started this oil earlier this morning after I did my daily sketch, 40 x 50cm on a Panart cradled board. Working from my sketchbook, (Boston uk), this is stage one, roughly drawn out with no particular accuracy. Much of this will alter considerably as I progress. I’ll be looking for an atmospheric study but this could change of course, I’m thinking misty/hazy early morning, the background buildings fading away… I find it pointless spending ages on this first stage, this is 30 minutes max, including swiping some turpsy raw umber over the board as my ground. I never bother waiting for this to dry, just straight in with a small synthetic no3 Daler Round brush. That’s the plan anyway, I thought I’d post a WIP for a change. Not sure how far I’ll progress with this, I’ve got a possible test report to do for the magazine, with a tight deadline, I’m waiting for confirmation, but hopefully I can fit both in…

I did expect a bit more interest if I’m honest! I won’t post any more stages…

I'd like to see some more Alan and I'm sure I am not alone in saying that. I'm guilty of looking in and but not saying anything, which I know is no good to the people who put themselves out there with their posts.  It's actually shyness on my part - I think the official term is a 'lurker' but that sounds a bit sinister! So, I'd love to see your painting progress - it's a great way to learn.
Thanks Sarah, I’ll post stage two when I’ve completed it! I’ll have an hour at it shortly, before having to break off and make a start on this test report for the magazine.
Alan I would like to see more , I looked at the first stage and was waiting for the next before commenting .  I’m always ready to watch work in progress as we all gain from seeing how others do things .
Say not the struggle naught availeth - at this stage, there's not a lot that could be said, other than press on, we await further stages.  It's interesting to see how you approach the first building blocks, and would be interesting to see how you proceed if you were to post more.  The Forum is not a hive of activity at the moment, however, having one of its occasional slumps - that doesn't mean no one is watching or appreciating.  For myself, my mind has been on health matters - but I had some good news this week on that front, so can now shift my focus on to others.
I’ve had a good hour at it this morning, so a bit of progress made. That’s the Boston stump to the right of the large block which was a warehouse I believe at some point, obviously it’s far too dark and prominent at this stage. I always like to work over the whole painting, rather than scratching about and finishing off small areas… Not a great photo, taken in my studio and it’s a dull day..,
I like the palette…..
