A basic sketch for a painting depicting the early days of steam when it was thought that sail was the main source of conveying cargo , passengers etc across the sea . Often steam tugs were used to tow the sailing ships out to where they could catch the wind as start the long sea journey, steam would prevail eventually for quite some time .

Thank you Carol . It the time of year where I start to get the itch to paint autumn scenes or even winter one but hold back on the snow ones . I do always want to paint the autumn leaves and oddly blackberry /bramble hedges this is the basic sketch for this years first one , I say this as there is bound to be others there usually is.

A fine detail of your saw- toothed bramble leaves, Dixie. They are both a delight to look at when they turn colour, and a scourge as the sheep love eating the leaves no matter how much grass is under them. They do have a delicate sweet smell to them later in the year.
I also like the hollowing post, I find a few common ash that have bonsaied themselves within the earthy hole. I leave them there, good luck to them.

You are very lucky having all that happening in your office , so many people take what’s around them for granted and don’t even give a second look. Their loss as they are missing out on some wonderful things and it’s for free . I would have a camera with me all the time as I used to when I was working in the woodlands, unfortunately due to a problem with my old computer most were lost , totally unretrievable unfortunately.

ink.
