Following a successful week , despite concerns over copyright herd we are with week two . Thank you to Dawn and Gillian for the two excellent artist the suggested last week If we can star the week off looking first at Ewan  McClure who was suggested by Marjorie and the mid week look at John Blockley  suggested by Jenny . I don’t want to sound bossy but it will stop a lot of  confusion by looking at them separately. I hope Dawn will confirm that we are able to post examples of each artists work ,. Have fun , enjoy looking and please do join in the discussion.
If we can’t post Ewan’s work - he is a practising artist - I’m sure we can all easily look him up. I mentioned earlier his “ reverse technique” of painting portraits which is amazing to watch - on his FB or you tube.

Ewan is a fantastic artist, particularly with his reverse portrait technique, and I have a catalogue of some of his work which he gave me after a long chat we had some years back, when he was resident artist in Kircudbright. First came across his technique when he appeared on PAOTY.
Ron, I met him in Hornell’s house in Kirkcudbright, where he was artist in residence and some of the paintings from his exhibition were there. Such a nice bloke. Maybe it was the same year.
We have three articles from the archives by John Blockley available to read in the techniques area here https://www.painters-online.co.uk/tips-techniques/search/?Search=blockley
A brilliant portrait painter but his still life work is stunning….thick descriptive and directional strokes of the brush give his subjects life. He’s a magician with lighting effects …...such a talent. I also first met him at Broughton House in Kirkcudbright, he picked out a friend of mine and painted his portrait there and then! Met him again at Elizabeth Gilbeys studio, another talented artist in this area. My first foray out after the lockdown in 2020 was to see his exhibition in Kirkcudbright, and was lucky enough to purchase one of his paintings……which I hope to add to. His style reminds me a little of Samuel Peploe, I think that’s what first drew me to his work. I believe he has now settled in Kirkcudbright and has a studio there, working on portrait commissions in the main. Can’t wait for his next exhibition! I would like one of his still life paintings next. This is the painting I have……Lichen on Rocks.
I took some photographs at the exhibition and these are a couple that show his brush work….lush. If anyone is interested, I have a couple of links that may be of interest describing some problem solving QandA’s , there is also an article that was done for the Artist and Illustrator as well…..I think.
Needless to say, I am very jealous of Fiona.  His landscapes are also very interesting, very contemporary, quite different to his Still Life and Portraiture.

Same place, Marjorie, and you are right - such a great person to talk to. It must have been 2019, as the catalog is for his 'Gravity & Light' exhibition at the Scottish Gallery June/July 2019. Many of his landscapes are of Sweden and Fiona's purchase is in the catalog for that exhibition. His partner, and muse at the time, is Swedish. It is interesting that he has settled in Kircudbright. I have quite a few paintings by another artist there who runs the Ochre Gallery, Richard Brinley.
I bought some of of Richard Brinley’s small prints of jazz musicians for my son in law. Another artist I like.
Sorry Im I’m AWOL from the discussion  at the moment, I am laid up with a raging infection in my lower jaw, can’t see well as my face is swollen and the meds are knocking me out. What I’ve manage to see looks good all be it a bit blurry, great choice Marjorie. Enjoy the artists .
Oh Paul, sorry to hear this. Hope you get better soon!
