Best wishes from me as well for a quick recovery, Paul! - it sounds rather painful.  (I will add my bit about John Blockley at lunchtime on Thursday.)

Get well soon Paul
Get well soon Paul. Ewan McClure, I found his portrait work very interesting. There is a harsh, immediate feel about them and some very clever poses. I liked his work.
Thank you all for you kindness, as the song say what a difference a day makes , feeling much better and Looking  as normal as I possibly can , that’s a big challenge normally.  Another good choice of artist for us to learn about , I will spend a bit more time today having a better look , but from what I have seen his portraits are excellent.
His portraits are excellent , sometimes quite rugged looking . I’m not a portrait painter and admire portrait but don’t go out of my  way to look at them but his work attracts me for some reason. I do like his still life paintings the are superb, my favourite is The Kite .  I sadly can’t find the names or locations of the other two that I find outstanding.
I remember Ewan McClure on PAOY and hoped at the time that he would win the competition. It's been good to look at his work on line and see just how talented he is. I guess it's no surprise that I'm drawn to his portraits primarily but I also like his still life paintings. His self portraits are superb and have a Rembrandt feel about them I think.
This is just a beautiful painting.
Hope you’re feeling better Dixie. I just looked up Ewan McClures reverse portrait painting in the mirror. Goodness that’s bizarre but obviously works well for him. Might have to try that! Has anyone here tried it? I remember him on PAOTY where he was outstanding, and I didn’t realise that he did still Iife etc which is also excellent. Russell you are right, there is a look of Rembrandt in his rugged look and painting style. Now going to look up John Blockley!
I've just come across Francis Bacon. I really don't know what to think of his work but I certainly found it fascinating. Can we add him to the list.
Certainly will Denise . Anyone who wants to add a name please do , we have about twelve at present.  I don’t think it would be helpful to do more than two a week as we then don’t have much time to look and comment, however I will to change it if that’s the majority decision.
What an interesting pair of contemporary artists . Thanks for heading me in their direction.   Ewan McLure , such beautiful portraits and still life’s… But John Blockley really bowled me over his  landscapes are quite special.  Big thanks for the heads up. Please can I add Kyffin Williams to the list.
I will add him right now Sylvia , must be a local artist going by the name .
