Welcome to week 73 of Inspiration from Artists , this weeks featuring Artists are :  Steve Hall and Colin Verity,  Alan will open with his introduction to Steve Hall and on Wednesday I will introduce Colin Verity . I hope you enjoy the selections of artwork, have a good week and enjoy your artwork.
Unlike the previous artists that I’ve introduced, I must confess to not knowing a great deal about Steve Hall! I’ve read his articles in The Artist, and have one of his DVDs, where he demonstrates the working methods of the late Edward Wesson. I do know that he was gifted Wesson’s brush roll after his death - I’ve seen a photo of it and it gives us an insight into what brushes Wesson actually used for his wonderful watercolours!  I’ve selected a few paintings in the style of Wesson, and a few that aren’t so obvious! I’ve had to rely on Google for the remainder of my intro, so hear it is… Steve Hall is a well-known and very popular teacher who is the author of eight books and five teaching DVDs.  He is also a regular contributor to the Artist magazine. At about the time of the millennium my efforts took a dramatic turn for the better when I first became aware of the work of Edward Wesson . Here was someone who had managed to put aside all the verbal clutter about the medium of watercolour and put down on paper what he observed in as simple and honest fashion as was possible. Sadly Ted Wesson is no longer with us, however he was such a prolific painter and demonstrator that literally thousands of his paintings are still in existence and regularly appear in both galleries and auctions. Other artists with a similar honest approach to the medium have also influenced my style and approach to painting including Edward Seago, Jack Merriott, James Fletcher-Watson and lately John Yardley, with whom I have had the pleasure to paint at Dedham Hall.

Yes, I'm familiar with Steve's work (I have that dvd too, thanks to Alan Owen who sent it to me - he does that sort of thing!).  I can't begin to approach his talents in this medium, but now you've mentioned the dvd, I'll dig it out and watch it again: it's very inspiring.  He has some lovely work - I admire his (and obviously Ted Wesson's) confidence with the mop brush (of which Wesson was a pioneer): that's my downfall - little confidence with w'colour, too much timidity in approaching that forbidding white paper.  If I were advising anyone else, I'd say just get some paint down on the paper and keep trying - it's one thing to give advice, though; something else to take it.   Good to see Steve Hall's work here, including a couple I'd not seen before.
Wasn’t familiar with his work - think I prefer his pastels to his watercolours.  The first one Alan posted is my favourite, such beautiful colours.  A few more…

An artist new to me.  Very impressive.  What I'm seeing is very confident brush work, and knowing when to leave things alone.  Enviable traits.
My goodness, they are beautiful. Delicate fine strokes and beautiful colour. Love the last one Lewis chose and Alan’s choices of the boats and the second one down appeal very much.
Superb artwork and all beautifully done, I was not aware of his work before now , thanks for the introduction Alan .
These, I very much like.  In the "wish I could do that" category.
Such talent, One can only look and admire, just love the country lane with trees. Magnificent,
