JILL SOUKUP was born in New York, and now lives in Colorado. Her affinity for horses as a young girl resulted in countless drawings and studies of them. As a teen she started a pet portrait business, was commissioned to paint murals and designed logos for local organisations.
She graduated from Colorado State University in 1991 with a Batchelor of Fine Arts degree, following which she initially pursued a career as a graphic designer while still painting part time. After 11 years she switched to painting full time. Some of her work is quite large scale to give the viewer a better sense of the presence of the animal represented.

Lovely equine paintings from a talented artist. They have the appearance, obviously deliberate, of being heavily cropped - I like that concept!
I am also impressed with that complex industrial scene, very cleverly executed, and the painting of the side of a house is such a great idea, and extraordinarily well done, look at those textures!
Great find Jenny

A superb artist , the horses are beautifully painted with great detail. I’ve added some paintings I particularly like , just feel I can touch the painting and feel the horse’s muscles etc moving under my hand . I love painting horses but find them quite difficult, she makes it look so easy.

Sorry for the late posting , I’m having technical issues needing to change my choice of artist this week .
My chosen artist now is:
Brian Crosby . A British artist living in Cheltenham, who uses watercolour to paint detailed architectural , and had a reputation for his detailed work, Brian is a member of the national body Society of Architectural Illustrators.
He is a Nationally Qualified Art Teacher and has touch in many secondary and further education establishments in Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. It’s been difficult getting information about him , there was a short reference to him being bankrupt having lost his gallery in Montpelier.
I hope you enjoy my selection of his work.

I’ve been away on grandma duty for a few days, so only just catching up with these two artists. I hadn’t heard of either but am hugely impressed by Jill Soukup: her horses and the few figures with them are stunning. I’m not usually one for horse paintings but her style and skills are so good that they are very appealing. As Alan has said, the cropping helps considerably, making them even more impressive.
I live quite close to Cheltenham, wasn’t aware of Brian Crosby or his gallery but many of his buildings and their style are very familiar.
