Welcome to this weeks thread the bonus artist this week is another illustrator  Harry Roundtree 1878-1950, was a prolific illustrator working in England around the turn of the twentieth century.  Born in Auckland New Zealand he move to London in 1901 when he was 23 years old. Roundtree was educated at Aucklands Queens College and began working at Wilson and Horton Printers designing Show - Cards , advertisements and product labels. He progressed to become the special artist to the Auckland Weekly News published by  Wilson and Horton . There’s us a good bio on Wikipedia. I hope you enjoys my selection of his work
Hats off to any illustrator who can let us relive the joys of childhood and youth by their skills. This is such a man. Superb work.
Love this artist’s delightful work, especially the very characterful cat and stork from Paul’s selection above.  A few more ….

I remember many of these from my childhood - though probably the illustrations were in older books: I'd love to know the story behind that wonderful fox painting, with the greenish-blue hare.
It’s good to see the artwork being appreciated as it’s a worry when you post what is predominantly children’s art. I’m very aware of illustrators at the moment as I picks up this superb 500 page book for £4 it’s in very good condition and gives the names and details of illustrators along with books , magazines, papers etc that they have illustrated .  The down side for you folk is thst I might be featuring a few more on the bonus thread , I already had Harry down before buying the book .
I, for one, Paul, would love to see more illustrators’ work - the image on the cover of the book you’ve just posted is brilliant.   A few more of Harry Rountree’s  - he captures such great expressions on his animals -

Jenny you would love the book , it has quite a lot of details re the artists but is full of examples of mono  colour, wood engraving and colour plates . It really is an inspiration and of course at my age a lovely memory of childhood books thst ver before my birth and after in some cases . Andy offers to do a posters thread some time ago and I might take him up on that offer but I think he wanted record sleeves if I remember. I was also thinking of a week off illustration is peop,e are in agreement.
Although children's books illustrations hold little more than a passing interest for me, I would never belittle the skill, wit and undoubted imagination of the artist.  I do, however, find myself wondering what else did he/she do?  In the case of Harry Roundtree, I was delighted to find a series of landscape watercolours, which seem to feature golf courses (something else that holds little interest for me).  They are quite charming.  This one is Gullane, near Edinburgh.
Paul, I’ve found a second hand copy of the book online - not quite as cheap as yours, but still a bargain at £6.18 with free shipping!  The suggestion of a week on illustration sounds good - and maybe a separate thread on railway posters, although I think we’ve already looked at one or two artists who did these.  See what others think.

Jenny certainly worth the money in my opinion as I think you will enjoy reading it . You can also find names to research on line and find more of their work.

Hi Paul, posters was someone else, can’t remember who, and yes,  my suggestion was album covers.
Andy that is  what I thought you had specifically said but said posters as I wasn’t sure . I will do the album cover week and  illustration one and later maybe a poster week ad having a themed week every so often seems to work and bring in different artists etc . I’m looking at posting the update list so before posting I will see what I can fit in , the list I’m working on goes up to late October .
