Welcome to this weeks bonus Artist Thread my choice of artist this weekend is  William Lee Hankey 1869 - 1952, was a British painter and book illustrator . He specialised in landscape, character studies and portraits of pastoral life, particularly of mothers with young children. Born in Chester he worked as a designer after leaving school and studied art in the evenings at Chester School of Art ( Noe the Department of Art and Design at the University of Chester). He also produces some fine Maritime painting of which I’m particularly impressed and find they are  beautifully detailed. Further information about his life can be found on Wikipedia.  I hope you enjoy my selection I did try to limit  the amount of maritime painting (honestly) .
There's a lot to like about this collection
Wonderful selection Paul, and I can see why you like the maritime paintings so much.
You needn't limit the maritime paintings for my sake: I love 'em.  I'm not very good with boats, though - Lesley Dabson, who used to show on the Gallery, is your go-to for maritime paintings and boats: now there's someone for a future feature.  My problem with drawing or painting boats is that I don't understand the rigging - i.e. where it goes, and why it goes there.  So much to do - but that could be a future project for me; that's the great thing about this lark; there's always something new to paint.
I see that he was a book illustrator, and his paintings definitely have that story telling appearance, which I love.  Another good find Dixie: I like all of your selection above, and I shall look further.
Lovely selection of paintings - I especially like the fourth and sixth of Paul’s choice above.
I found this interesting article from Countrylife. There are also a lot of his prints on the British Museum website, of which these are a few I liked.
Wonderful selection Paul, and I can see why you like the maritime paintings so much.

Wish I could say ship rigging is easy Robert, but it ain't. I've built four full scale model sailing ships and one took me five months to do. This link may help.. https://civilwartails.com/2023/03/17/you-can-do-it-rigging-a-ship/
I really love all of these. There's so much to see and feel in each one. I have never heard of him before so thanks Paul!
Thought I would post a few more ,
There was something about Hankey that I couldn't quite put my finger on.  Then the first of Dixie's latest offering screamed out Moret Sur Loing - where Alfred Sisley worked.  It is almost as though some of Hankey's work is revisiting the style of northern France pre-impressionism era.  I have chosen the painting below (Hankey's The River Durdant, Normandy) because it puts me in mind of another pre-impressionist.  Jongkind, I think, though I can't find the painting it reminds me of.
