My choice of artist this week is one I came across recently whist looking at name to include on this thread  but he has in the last few weeks become quite a favourite and is up there with my long term favourites. I could have included him in the Maritime week but he paints some wonderful landscapes scenes as well so hence a section of his own . I hope you enjoy my choice of his work I found it difficult to stop selecting them to post , decided these were enough well for now anyway.  David Curtis born in Doncaster in 1948 ( a good but very cold I believe) he headed a engineering design team until 1988 when he became a professional artist. David is a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and has many of his paintings in private collections.
The water in the barge shot is very good indeed
His paintings would be in my collection too, if I could afford them!  I love the way he paints trees, with apparently minute detail until you look, and discover that - well, I won't elaborate, because I think that if you want to paint trees, REALLY  look at the way he tackles them - you can cure yourself of any tendency to rely on stipple if you intensely study the way he approaches them (and the way Alan Bickley approaches them, by the way). Quite irrelevantly, I think I remember an article in The Artist, a long, long time ago, in which he mentioned he had used Cobalt Green, a colour I'd never tried up to then, as the only tube green that came anywhere near to a natural leaf green: I hope I've not mis-remembered that. Anyway - I look upon his works and just think - perfection is among us.
I really like his work: he has a very light touch. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago when he had an exhibition in Broadway. He was very approachable and happy to talk to everyone about his work in some detail. I have a couple of his books ,and I will choose something to post later. Another good choice Dixie.
I’ve got all of his books, he’s a very special artist whose work I’ve long admired!  I’ll sort an image out later…
All his work is wonderful, but his watercolours are just out of this world.
In 1992 I purchased a book titled ‘An oil painter’s question and answer book’. In this book a number of contemporary oil painters detailed how to tackle common difficult subjects. David Curtis was one of these artists and I was immediately smitten by his paintings.  Not just a fantastic oil painter but a wonderful  water colourist too.  I have recently watched a paid for online demo of him using this watercolour of his as reference for an oil painting, completed in 3 hours.  Just magical!

I love the way he paints too.
Some more of his wonderful work, I’m at risk here of overloading the system as there are so many I want to share .  I honestly can’t remember the last time I was so impressed or attracted to someone’s paintings as much as I am David’s .
Inspiring stuff Paul! Just love the early morning light and atmosphere he’s captured in this piece!
I’ve seen his work before, an excellent painter - I particularly like the one Alan has just posted and the fifth one that Paul first posted, a river scene.

I can see why you have admired his work Alan he certainly is a master of craft , the way he captures light , reflections and the in contrast shadow and shade . One of the benefits of searching out artists for the thread I I find some wonderful artist that I would otherwise have missed out on.
