Welcome to this weeks thread Jenny Harris  will lead the  week and begin with her introduction to Street Art layer n the week Jenny will again take the lead and introduce us to Australian Silo art . I’m quite looking forward to both topics as I know very little about Street  Art  and absolutely nothing about about Australian Silo Art .
STREET ART.  Much of today’s modern Street Art has its origins dating back to New York’s graffiti boom in the 1960s.  London’s graffiti art scene began to emerge in the late 1960s and early 1970s with the rise of punk rock which was often associated with this art form, and many of the early London street artists were influenced by this movement.  Graffiti transformed into Street Art in the 1990s with the emergence of beautiful artworks encompassing design and imagery. Today there is a thriving community of street artists in the Brick Lane and Shoreditch areas of London’s East End where guided tours of the artworks can be taken.  Graffiti, though, is still the most common type of street art in London, with Banksy being the most famous of the graffiti artists.  The nature of street art there tends to be transient, with images often painted over by new artwork within days or weeks. The street art scene also thrives globally and murals are often painted for national and international mural festivals, or commissioned and used for advertising in a more commercial form of art.  It also provides an opportunity for neighbourhoods to create colourful and inspiring communities. Some street artists have earned international recognition for their work and have made a full transition from street art into the mainstream art world, often while continuing to produce art on the streets.  Traditional graffiti and street art motifs have also increasingly been incorporated into mainstream advertising, with many instances of street artists contracted to work as graphic designers for corporations. Street Art has become so popular that it is now one of the ‘sights to see’ in many European cities with the artists often providing tours of local street art. Fantastic Jenny, I absolutely love street art. It must take some planning scaling up to that size. It's art that's accessible to all, to see. Here are some photos of street art I have taken around my city. Some of the artists sign their work, whilst others are unknown.
I too love street art, apart from anything else the sheer scale of it is so impressive, I wouldn't know where to start.
Mind blowing images.  It's the sheer practical problems that astound me...you're up a ladder painting an eye bigger than you...there's no stepping back to check if it's right.  Then there's the cost of materials.  I don't like everything, but admire the brash bravado of the whole thing. A few more... Trump and covid... Then there's the 3D illusional stuff.... I understand this 3d art works best when seen through a camera lens.
The 3D illusional images are fascinating - here are a few more (first Russia, the others Portugal)….

Astonishing.  I wonder how long some of these paintings survive, especially those in pretty derelict spots...like the last one above.
Here's two I came across in Philadelphia back in 1999!  I wonder if they have survived?
Some fabulous choices of artwork, I’m amazed at them all especially the size of some. Must take a lot of planning and work to get them completed. I certainly will be having a look online for some more examples, the only time I have seen it in life apart from the political one in NI was on a trip to Paris some ten years ago.
Some fantastic work-I’m at my daughters til this evening and will have a better look when home. Near where I am in east London is this side of a shop which I rather like- by Joe Furlong.
Some more from around the world -  Croatia USA France Germany Portugal Holland
Can only add my admiration to some truly mind-boggling talent. The tea cup in particular is breathtaking.
