Welcome to this weeks thread the the featuring are : Maggie Vendewalle and Vanantina Verlato . Jenny will start the week off with her introduction to Maggie  Vendewalle and on Wednesday I will introduce Vanantina Verlato . Have a good week and keep safe .
Maggie Vandewalle was born and raised in rural Iowa.  As a child she spent her time roaming the woods and fields, reading books and forever doodling.  After high school she received an art scholarship to the University of Iowa where she worked towards a BFA in printmaking.  She now works with watercolour and gouache or graphite to convey her love of the organic world and that of a really good story: “While growing up, if I wasn’t outside, I spent most of my time with my nose in books.  When I look back, the pictures are as clear to me as the stories, they are intertwined in a way that creates magic for me.  I’m not a writer, but love a story, I try to create visual narratives through the use of paint.” Arthur Rackham is listed as one of her favourite artists, and you can see his influence in a lot of her work.
Well Jenny, you've found yet another staggeringly good artist.  Meticulous detail that, for me, moves away from absolute realism towards surrealism.  Yes... whimsy too, but I love her art.  An astonishing amount of work goes into each of her works.  Here's a few that I like... I'd like to see her illustrate Alice in Wonderland.  A great find.  Thanks Jenny.
I agree with Lewis- another fantastic artist with humour thrown in! My favourite has to be the bear and rabbit (or is it a hare?) but they are all wonderful.  Thanks again Jenny
Thanks Jenny a great introduction to a superb artist , her work is amazing and all is so beautifully detailed. For me the trees are the best bits they are just so good I feel that if I touched the screen I could feel the bark on them,  all that’s missing is the sound and smell.
And yet another great 'find,' wonderful artist.
This artist work is a real delight to look at Jenny. Very good.
Pleased this artist is getting such positive comments -  loved her magical work when I first came across it.  Think I’ve mentioned it before, but the paintings of a lot of the artists who were new to me just popped up on my Facebook page!

I think what attracts and inspires me is that her landscapes are believable in that  she paints a superb landscape then adds that bit extra to give it the slight mythical look . She paints such superb landscapes they are paintings that landscape fans  would love to own . I shall have a look and see what I find .

What also appeals is that she uses the same mediums that I do.  The thread has produced oil and  acrylic painters, and lino-cuts etc...this doesn't matter, the art is wonderful to see...but it's more inspirational (for me) when they use the same mediums as me. Here's one I like...'Sojourners'...30 x 51 inches...watercolour and gouache on paper.
How utterly fabulous and thanks Jenny for the intro.  I was wandering through them before I read your intro and thinking how Arthur Rackhamish they are . The Bat Cat has to be one of my favourites.
Valentina Verlato born in 1964,  is a Italian artist who predominately uses watercolours. She studies Flemish and Dutch art history and graduated Doctor in Literature, at present she teaches watercolours at her own Artelier in Isola Vaicentina.  I have recently become aware of her artwork, and fine her use of watercolour outstanding, I hope you enjoy her paintings.
