Welcome to this weeks Inspiration from  Artists , this week’s featuring artists are:  Babs Pease and John Henry Twatchman.  Jenny start this weeks thread with her introduction to the artwork of Babs Pease on Wednesday I will introduce the artwork on John Henry Twatchman. I hope you have a good week and enjoy the selected artwork.
Babs Pease has been working as an artist and printmaker since graduating from Edinburgh University and College of Art.  She lives on a small farm in Perthshire and much of her inspiration comes from the beautiful landscape of the Ochil Hills and their rich variety of flora and fauna. Her designs are all hand carved onto linocut blocks and then printed using an antique Victorian relief press.  Her multi-coloured prints are usually achieved by using a different block for each colour.  Sizes of her prints vary from 18 cm sq. to 47x 37 cm for some of the more complex designs.

My goodness Jenny, you do come up with some amazing artists! These are all wonderful but for me the cat on the quayside takes the biscuit (or at least I’m sure it would like to !). Again I will look more, and thank you. Her work is superb.

Stunning artwork and a great selection Jenny , thanks for the introduction I will have a look at her work and make some choices.  Some I particularly like.

I've always admired the skills involved in creating linocuts.  This artist's work is superb.
Highly skilled and very appealing work - I like the fact that the artist uses a Victorian relief press: long may it keep giving good service - when the Victorians made things, they made them properly.
As someone who likes to draw and always has a rubber to hand, I am always amazed to see the work of those who carve out their designs from lino or wood- such skilful work. Babs’ work is intricately done and then the addition of colour too to her designs on top-very impressive.
John Henry Twatchman 1853-1902 Twatchman was a n American painter known for his impressionist landscapes , though his painting style varied widely through this career. He was a member of The Ten, a loosely allied group of American artists dissatisfied with the Professional art organisation, who banded together in 1898 to exhibit their work as a stylistically unified group.  Wikipedia has a good bio on his life .  Another artist I I have recently become aware of I hope you find his work interesting,
I rather like his work Dixie, and find it pleasant to look at. The last one you have posted is probably my favourite as I’m attracted by the lightness of it and the way he has painted his trees especially in the sky area. I found a few of his drawings which I like. Thinking about my choice, I realise I am often drawn to the drawings of an artist (pardon the pun) which must mean something!  I think I’m interested to see how someone develops their work, and these were preparation for further paintings.

This is going to sound awful but Mr Twatchman leaves me cold.  Looking at Dixie's selection the second one down makes me think of a washed out Cezanne, the fifth reminds me of an exercise in a teach yourself are book and the sixth looks like a poorly painted mirror image of Morisot's 'Harbour at Lorient', but without the harbour wall and the people.  In all the time that Dixie has been organising the splendid series, this is the first time I couldn't see anything of merit in the work.  Yet his drawings are completely different, I can see why people would like them and would have to admit that I like them too.  It's almost as though they are by a different artist.
It’s not awful Tony it’s how you see the artists work , I’m not over enthusiastic about it as well. It’s much better to be honest and you have been and I really appreciate that , I’m not offended by peoples comments regarding artists and their work. I do prefer it when people say why they don’t like something or that they don’t like it as it then encourages a closer look at the work . When you think of all the wrists we have looked at it’s not surprising that there  will be the occasional one you don’t appreciate. I really pleased that you enjoying the series , I really enjoy the research and trying to find artists that I think people won’t have seen before or are not well know .it’s become almost a new hobby , something I would never have expected, I do think the the lovely Jenny gets a kick out of selecting and pick out artist for use as well, I definitely couldn’t run the series without her , big thanks partner.
