I have admired her father's work for many years and in recent years I have taken a liking to Ann’s painting . I have to admit at first I thought it was just copying dad’s style but she has taken his ways and developed them into Ann’s way and style , yes it’s similar to JB to so different as well . Can’t resist posting some more .
Just a delight.
She’s written an inspirational book ‘Experimental Landscapes in Watercolour’ where she discusses the techniques she uses.  (They look simple enough - until you try them!  The way she pulls them together into such beautiful paintings is just amazing.) These are a few illustrations from it.

What I see here, among many other things, is confidence and bravery: she takes the difficult art of watercolour painting beyond the obvious because she has an ever-increasing armoury of skills which probably led to her work going wrong many times before going right.  She had a great tutor, of course.  Excessive timidity is where some of us - I mean me, of course! - make a mistake with watercolour: it favours the bold who know what they're doing or are prepared to find out by relentless experiment.   I'd not seen most of these paintings before - seeing them now might make one inclined to throw it all up and just leave it to the experts!  But actually - it inspires me to be braver in future, and less constrained by 'careful' colour-mixing and excessive verisimilitude (big word, all I could think of to convey what I meant!).
I too have her book and have also seen her DVD.  I am not a natural watercolour painter, but thought I would give a go, she makes it look so simple… it isn’t!  I often wonder if she has a plan when she starts a painting, or if she just goes with the flow?
Alan, I’ve just been reading an interview with Ann Blockley from a few years ago and she was asked about the thought process behind her paintings.  This was her reply.

Thank you Jenny, for sharing this.  Very interesting.
Another week with two superb artists and next week we have two more very different styles. The featured artist will be  Ng Woon Lam and  Walter Langley , some more  really good paintings coming up with introductions from Michael and Jenny.  I will post the bonus artist this evening.
Beautiful watercolours from Ann Blockley, quite spellbinding in fact such vibrant colours
I was introduced to Ann Blockley on a painting course a few years ago by an adult education tutor who was trying to get us to be more experimental. Ann’s work is beautiful and quite inspirational and I’m glad she’s been featured. Lovely examples here.
Quite a few people who have met here say that she is a lovely person.
