Me too Robert! I have looked at a lot of Wilf Roberts work and find it very pleasing- at the same time bold in style. I feel there’s much to learn there. For some reason I’ve been unable to copy his paintings on my iPad without them appearing slightly blurred, or at least not sharp, so I have given up on that. I especially like the effect he achieves with his combination of knife and brush in particular, he does that so well.

I believe it falls to me to introduce Ann Blockley RI SWA. Ann is, of course, the daughter of the late John Blockley and paints in watercolour and mixed media. I personally find it fascinating to see how she has been influenced by the work of her father and continues to experiment with materials and develop a semi abstract style. I also love the textures she creates so effortlessly.
Ann has recently moved to Devon where she is renovating a house in its own grounds which has made her more aware of environmental issues. Her work now uses more sustainable materials and influenced by patterns and textures in the sea.

One of the first paintings I tried to copy was one by her father , silly me thought it looked easy. She has certainly taken on and develop the style her father started. Her work is excellent and always so refreshing and like her father's work it more complex than it initially looks . Some that I particularly like the bright colours are delightful and the way she captures the light I’d superb.

Another lovely artist with a distinct style. She had a studio not far from here in the Cotswolds and I visited her exhibition a few years ago there and met her. As always, it was great to see her work ‘in the flesh’.
She used to use a lot of crumpled cling film to make the paint run, but from what Alan says I imagine she has probably discontinued that.

We have a few articles by both Ann and her father, John, in the techniques area https://www.painters-online.co.uk/tips-techniques/search/?Search=blockley - might be worth a look. And books in the store too of course - 20% off til the end of the month!

I also love her work and that of her fathers. You can see the influence he had. She has a distinctive style to her work, it is very beautiful and recognisable. She really put her stamp on this style of painting and you associate this style as being hers. A very imaginative and forward thinking artist, setting the trend for this style, I would say.
