Well what a tremendous selection of the good Mr Constable! I do like his sketches, and don’t think I have seen many, or any, before. His trees ,both sketched and painted are wonderful. Apart from the easily recognised big landscapes, I really like the one with a windmill and the sketch of the young boatbuilders chosen I think by Dixie.
I’ve been sweltering in London for the last two days but back home now just mildly sizzling so will look further at his work.
Here are a few I picked out of his extensive collection, a young self portrait, another view of Salisbury cathedral because I especially like the composition, the mill at gillingham, and a sky study.

A really good selection of Constable paintings displayed this week. Before we move on to Moira Huntley , I would like to thank you all for your support and encouragement of the thread.
Next weeks artists are Magritte and Stanhope Forbes sorry Alan we seem to be keeping you busy at the moment. Magritte was originally suggested by Russell and later by Michael, it would be interesting to get a view from both of you on this artists work.
I’m looking forward to the introduction to Moira by Jenny .

Thank you Alan I’m looking forward to it. Thanks Jenny , as I’m dyslexic I have awful trouble with text correct as it does not alway recognise what I put down and changes it often . I also need to be careful how I read things as I have sometimes misunderstood what is said . When I was working I had a special set up on my laptop it was excellent but very slow. It does get a tad embarrassing when it make some glaring mistakes other are quite amusing but it’s something you learn to live with over the years and people are far more understanding than when I was a youngster.

MOIRA HUNTLY is a British contemporary artist, born in 1932 in Motherwell, Scotland. She was the ‘artist partner’ to the late John Blockley and their reputation and inspiration has had a lasting influence on many of today’s British artists.
She paints in most mediums, often pastel or mixed media, and is probably best known for her buildings in landscapes and maritime subjects. Painted in the studio from keenly observed on-the-spot drawings, she aims to capture a balance between realism and abstract, and her love of colour is in the tradition of the Scottish colourists.
I love her style of painting - one of my favourite artists.

Those are wonderful Jenny. I have a book of her sketches somewhere, will have to dig it out for a recap. I do like her work and we were introduced to it in our local art group a few years ago, which is when I bought the book. I wasn’t particularly familiar with her paintings so thank you for that selection. I like her style very much. Also didn’t know the connection with John blockley.

RJust back home from a very hot shopping trip and what a pleasure to sit in front of the fan and look at the superb artwork selected . I have not looked at her work before but have seen the occasional painting, will now spend the afternoon enjoying her work. Thank you for the introduction Jenny this is apart from the heat turning into a good week what with Constable and now Moira Huntly doesn’t get much better.
