OHARA KOSON (1877 - 1945) was a prominent Japanese woodblock artist known for his contribution to the Shin-hanga (‘New Prints’) movement. Under the influence of ukiyo-e master Hiroshige, he excelled in creating exquisite prints of birds and flowers, combining traditional Japanese themes with contemporary flair.
His detailed and realistic renderings, marked by their vibrant colours and intricate designs, were highly sought after in both Japan and the West. His work played a significant role in preserving and re-invigorating the woodblock print tradition in the early 20th century.

Marvelous work. My sketchy ideas on what woodblock 'is' and how the various colours are applied is flummoxed by this work, I've no idea how he gets the colour gradients with this method. I'll have to look it up. I'm a bit busy at the moment. Painting. My bathroom... with emulsion paint.
Another brilliant find Jenny.

My favourite one .
