Hello everyone, My name is Rob and I'm a very amateur watercolorist. I live in Hereford and having been trying to paint on and off since 2007. The last year has given me focus to concentrate on my medium and take it Plein Air as well. Looking forward to being more creative from here on in and enjoying painting for what it is. Rob.
Welcome to the forum and POL Rob, it’s quite a friendly place, well most of the time  anyway. You will always find people willing to give advice and information if your looking for some.
Many thanks Paul, I'm looking forward to getting involved and hopefully picking up bits and pieces along the way.
Welcome Rob, plenty of good subject matter in Hereford! I’m predominantly an oil painter, with the occasional small series of watercolours which I enjoy also. You may find The Artist and Leisure Painter magazines helpful, two separate mags from the same stable as this website. Shout up if you need any critique or help with anything painterly!  Post here on the forum for critique generally, and on the gallery for comments etc…
Welcome Rob! 😀
Welcome Rob, I learn most things off the site, there is a good community section with exercises to follow and a tips and techniques section with lots of help and exercises on. The members are a great source for advice and critique. Lots in the magazines also.
Welcome, and I see you've revived an older thread (on which I've replied) already - good, it was well chosen because considering artists' palettes and how they should develop as we gain knowledge of the paint we use is always vitally necessary.
Many thanks all for your warm welcome. Alan, I resubscribed to both magazines in 2019 after a few years away and so glad I did as I find them both invaluable. I really like the Artist as the aspirational magazine where as I use LP for my learning curve.  Robert, you are so right about palettes and how they develop with better knowledge and experimentation. Mine has evolved quite bit in the last couple of years moving away from the standard Cadmiums, Cobalts and earth tones to my current incarnation. I am really excited about gaining more experience and interacting with so many inspirational artists that I see on here.
That’s great Rob, there’s a lot of useful practical information in both magazines. I’m a regular contributor/feature writer for The Artist, I believe I have a feature in the  January 2022 issue, How to create a visually strong painting by focusing on the tonal values (in oils) My copy is late arriving so I haven’t seen it yet.

Hi Alan, indeed you do. All about tonal values which I have been doing this morning funnily enough updating my grey scale.  As I said previously I use TA as my, "what to aim for" while I'm still trying to get to grips with the fundamentals etc. Your on page 50, just to give you a heads up.
