Hi everybody, I'm back after an absence while completing a NPS painting Diploma. This site is so much improved since I disappeared and it's lovely to feel like part of a painting community. I'm enjoying looking at all the work in the Gallery. I have a question- is there a protocol as to "Likes"? Are they limited in some way- because I am noticing so few "Likes" on some really gorgeous paintings. Thanks!
Hi Barbara, no protocol, it’s just that people don’t bother clicking the button when they view of comment.
I think it may also have something to do with the device one is using.   On a PC/laptop, a mouse passing over live, clickable objects would highlight them, making them obvious. Not so on a tablet where one can only tap to select; assuming one knows it's live in the first place.
Hello Barbara , welcome back it feels like home on the site case most people are very friendly. I tend not to use the like button , if it’s something that catches my eye then I think it’s worthy of a comment, even if I type in I like this and usually say why.  Looking forward to seeing more of you artwork.
Small confession - I often do click on 'like' as well as commenting: I've always been one for belt and braces - I also hope (one is generous to a fault..) that it helps the individual artist a bit. Barbara, welcome back, and I think I agree that the gallery has improved in general quality over the years: there's such a lot of high quality work there now; as said elsewhere though, the great thing about the site is that it can accommodate all of us, the professional, the amateur, the highly experienced, the total beginner - and now, a contributor with an NPS Diploma, no less.  Congratulations on that (well, we assume you DID actually get it - I notice you don't quite say........). PS - Bet you did!

Hello Barbara I use an ipad, and it doesn't let me 'like' things in the gallery!! A bit annoying, as I often don't want to have to write something to show my appreciation of someone's work.
Helen press the little heart under the pic.  I use an I pad and that works for me.
Mine's an old ipad. It doesn't let me do a lot of things!
I could be because it’s no longer updating the software Helen . They start to deteriorate after about three years , batter life is less etc and one of the functions don’t work. Mine is heading that way , but I will put up with it for now but will have to , let the moths out of my wallet at some point.
Yep, 10.3.3 is as far as it goes. My much older tiny ipod (9 yrs) has finally become almost useless as its battery lasts all of 30 seconds! The ipad is slightly younger at 6-7 yrs so has a bit of life left (the moths can stay in my wallet for a wee while I hope)
Thanks everybody, that's really useful to know. I'm used to the NPS site where we are very generous with our "likes"! I see the comments as formative assessment and the "likes" as summative (?), but that's my teacher background. I will now feel free to sprinkle "likes" as I feel them, but agree the comments are more developmental. Robert- yes, I did get the Diploma (you just have to attend the whole course and do the homework) but I also got very complimentary comments at the end which I am much too shy to share! Still very much learning though, and it's great to belong to this talented group too.
