water mixable oils - is it for me?

Here I have this new box of paints, sitting on my workbench already a few weeks. I have now opened it and started a painting. I am a bit disappointed! I must have done something wrong. I am using mdf primed three times with thin layers of gesso and one thin acrylic. That should be ok. I draw my outlines with pencil, but I should have done them with thin acrylics, I think. Next using the paints thinly with just a damp brush. It worked ok, till I wanted to add a little on top for a shadow. It wiped the previous layer also. Thus next it was left for a few days. Still not dry and could be wiped off with a tissue and completely erased by a damp tissue! Is that how water-mixable oils work? The oil paint feels a bit like chalk when touched, strange..... So...I will wait a few more days and see if it will respond better after it is a week dry. In meantime I will do an acrylic painting, dry in a very short time and you can layer it as you go. I am not giving up on oils, but need to read up a bit more first.
