Transitions.

As people can probably see from my gallery it is heavily cartoon based. Now I don't have any problem with that, I love a good cartoon, but I have been drawing these since.....well....as long as I can remember. I want to make the transition into a painter. I have the sketching skills to start me off but my first transition has been into watercolour. A brilliant medium which is littered with pitfalls for the uninitiated. To liken it to anything I would say the bass guitar. Simpler to pick up and play than other instruments but a devil to completely master. Those that can change the way people think. My problem is, whilst I can certainly get an ok watercolour down, it doesn't flow with the freedom and passion in colour that I see in these pages. In short, the vision in my head does not transfer to the paper. I refuse to accept defeat as I love the medium but it has left me thinking...with a more structured sketching head on (blocking my ability to paint loosely with good results) maybe another medium would be more suited to getting my idea across. I am self taught, I was not even allowed to do art at school, so I would welcome any input. I am thinking acrylic would be a good step and so I have purchased a few beginners sets and will be delving in to that. All I need now is some inspiration (that doesn't presents itself in cartoon form) and them away I go......
