The Boat Painting Continues....

I've done a bit more work on my boat painting today. As there are two boats it has been a dilemma whether to make the tone of each hull the same intensity. I have tried to make the larger boat more dominant but without going overboard (pardon the pun!). I have also discovered Payne's Grey! Up until now I have scorned it for being heavy and dark, but having now played around with a bit I am beginning to appreciate the punch it can give if used sparingly. It has come in handy when trying to darken the shadow side of the hulls as long as I let the local colour shine through. My biggest problem with this painting will be the foreground as it is a shingle beach with darker and lighter patches. The boats are fairly vibrantly coloured and I really don't want to have the tone of the foreground compete with the boats - so do I lighten considerably or even leave section out? Not sure yet. Then we come to the sky - I am very wimpy about skies but am resolving to get bolder. What do I do with the sky??
