Tired of talking to myself, I thought I'd like to share the occasional thought with other artists, not least because I'm a little isolated physically (no car, somewhat disabled, not yet, at least, a member of any art club or society). I've painted off and on, but more off, for a good many years, but it wasn't until February 2008 that I had my first exhibition, in Ventnor (Isle of Wight) Library. At the time, I worked mostly in acrylic and oil, when I worked at all. I had many other interests. But the more I've painted, the more many of these have fallen by the wayside. I was involved in housing, health, local politics - but at 58, feel that I want to start again. So I've got my own website, and have started painting seriously; by which I really mean industriously. And I've read and learned. One strange thing, perhaps: although I know many people start of with watercolour, I didn't. I've taken it up only very recently, and found it very helpful in making me re-think my whole approach to oil and acrylic. I now paint in all of these media, the one being a refuge and rest from the others. I expect I'll keep experimenting, in all forms. And I look forward to doing so. I also look forward to exchanging views with others, and breaking out of my relative isolation. Hallo, brave new world!

Hi Robert I share your passion for painting and experimenting in different ways with all kinds of media this will lead to being more creative .Its hard work being an artist and not easy producing a piece of work we like let alone pleasing others . Your work shows your enjoyment and pleasure David

Producing art is a very isolating occupation, which is why I value POL so much and all the people I have got to know on the site. Sharing frustrations, successes and the highs and lows stops me throwing in the towel on the bad days and gives me the lift I need to carry on. I suspect it might do the same for you as well. I was one of those who started with watercolour and I have struck to it - not finding any other medium that gives me such a buzz. It is funny how people do like to launch their artistic life in watercolour and I think if they knew how tricky it was they might go for one of the other mediums where it is easier to correct mistakes! You seem to have lead a very full life, Robert, and done a lot of good for people and your community so it is only right that now you spend some quality time (don't you just hate that Americanism!) fulfilling your own ambitions. I, for one, like to read other's thoughts about producing art and the blogs are a perfect vehicle for this. I actually think that because we are people, as well as artists, that some part of the site should be devoted to being able to share other things that are happening in your life which affect your work. Perhaps a 'agony aunt' or 'rant' thread on the forum? If that is too strong, then how about a 'today's news' so that everyone can have a chance to add a bit about what it going on with them on that particular day. I think communication between artists, both over artistic matters and how their life affects their producing art is a good thing. What do you think?
