Rainbow Brain

Just make something. Anything.

I dont think art is a choice. It isn't something we can choose to be surrounded by or not. It isn't something we can choose to be or make for we are all it. I guess it just depends whether we realise it or not. When I was little the first thing I ever wanted to be was an artist. I liked the idea of never putting down my crayons. I see my life and my world very deeply and in so much colour, so much vibrancy. My head is just so filled with these colours that they need put on paper, on canvas, on anything. I love to paint onto different surfaces, different materials, use objects to make a bigger picture. I always said I wanted to use my work to create a legacy, but now i feel differently, I dont feel it needs to be about me anymore. Its about the message and the people it reaches.

thanks so much for your advice and encouragment.........your comments have really picked me up...........

I know exactly what you mean Ruthy. When we start off we improve in leaps and bounds. As we get better the improvements are less obvious. We know exactly where we want to be but it doesn't seem to get any nearer. When I am happy with a picture it'll be because I have given up trying to improve. If that ever happens I'll call it a day! Keep going - inch by painful inch...

I have had a similar "road block" myself. I seemed to lose confidence in what i could achieve and like you I think that the answer is not to try too hard. I am still feeling my way into subjects and have spent quite a bit of time doing little " nothing really" type pictures but in doing so I am enjoying myself again. Art is so difficult isn't it, and life has a way of interfering ,so its hard to generate enthusiasm for what you are doing, but just when you think its not worth it, you will just come up with something which you are chuffed with. Glad that you are back online again Ruthy

Hi Ruthy. I found this quote a while back and have always tried to uphold the principle!!!..................." Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and preserved piece BUT to slide across the line broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out, leaking oil, shouting GERONIMO!!!"............sort of what Phil was saying I suppose.

thanks phil..........

Hi and welcome back Ruthy...age? unhappy with your art? The next one will always be better and your last one, one day, will be the best...it is art...it is personal development....it is that journey of life...just sort of go for it at full throttle...?
