Would someone please like to turn up at my house and beat around the head with a wet kipper because I am being really dim and I just can't get to grips with what I want to do in pen and wash. Mine is more wash and pen than the other way around. I know what I want to do but when I start I revert to exactly what I don't want to do - grrrr. The problem is that I want to do my pen drawing (and I have actually done one this time with minimal pencil work - just a few marker points and then straight in with the pen) and then loosely apply washes that don't necessarily follow the actual shapes. However, I start and then find myself mesmerised by the shapes and end up applying the colour to those rather than ignoring the boundaries. The frustration of it all is driving me crazy tonight and I have had to leave the painting before I burst a blood vessel. So disappointing when the drawing had gone well, too.
