Oh that green green grass...
Surprisingly tricky to paint, a lot of artists struggle with green as a colour - here's my latest experiment!

The only way to banish the fear of something is to crack into it head on, and for a landscape painter, my fear of greens is truly worrying! So rather than shying away from them as I traditionally tended to do, I've been painting a series of experimental views recently featuring lots of greens. Some work, some don't, but I am becoming more and more confident with my mixes. I truly believe that everybody sees colour differently, and to me I find pre-mixed colours rather ghastly, so always mix my own. It is amazing to see how just the substitution of one of the primary hues, i.e. chaning lemon yellow to cadmium, will make such a difference. No end of blues to experiment too, they all give a different feel, and once you add a touch of red then the colours become wonderfully warm and mossy... now that's more like it!
