I have been busy with pastels over the past couple of weeks and have experimented using watercolour paper, pastel paper and some Sennelier soft pastels as well my Derwent pastel pencils. I love the soft texture of the Sennelier pastels but I still have a lot to learn to get the best out of them. My picture of Tenby Harbour came out in a bit of a L S Lowrie style as I got the basic drawing wrong and my Whitesands Bay didn't really manage to capture the cliffs and waves too well. I think the watercolour paper was a bit too rough as I ended up with a bit too much texture and struggled to get the pastel to cover the white. This picture, 'Coming Home to Tenby' is the one shown on this blog. Important thing is that I am enjoying experimenting with a new medium!
