How I started?

Before I say anything let me just tell you that I always sign my paintings and drawings in my maiden name - C. HUCKLESBY. Well I must have been about 11 or 12 when I first started painting and I used watercolours. I used to copy cartoons like Bambi and Snow White on old computer paper and stick them in a scrap book. In fact I think that scrap book is still around and my youngest daughter has it. It wasnt until I met another mum from the primary school my daughter used to go to, did we realize we had painting as a common hobby and for the past two years if not more, we have met on a regular basis, almost every Thursday, to just paint. She was the one that first introduced me to acrylics and I havent look back since. Its such a wonderful medium for me but I do occasionally go back to watercolours, but my first passion is now acrylics. We have different styles completely but thats the beauty of meeting up once a week. We learn from each other and criticize each others work. I feel I still have alot to learn and having found this web site I hope to do just that. Much of my early work was simply coping Christmas cards, calenders, or magazine pictures. Nowadays I still like to use magazine pictures but rather than one I take several and past together to form one. I also have painted from my own photos which is still relatively new to me. I have been commissioned twice now, once for a Golden Retriever and once for a racehorse. Both where actually pencil drawings, which is something else I enjoy doing. I dont really have any subject I prefer doing. I do most things except people. Not good at those. I do love doing animals and their faces. They just light up when you paint the eyes. I have just finished one of my own dogs.

Hi Judith and thanks for your thoughts...unfortunately my "back" (I like to think of it in the third person) is a permanent thing I'm an old nurse and managed to tear three discs and also tear the facet joint ligaments on both sides of my back...I had major surgery in 1994 which took about 8 hours...I have a Titanium fusion at the L4/5 disc and unfortunately a lot of nerve damage...as with all these injuries there are now more discs bulging...the secret is to keep active but I have yet to learn my limitations which ends in the nerves going into spasm...I think in the end I'll have to give in and have another Op but as long as a bit of rest and plenty of Medications I'll stay out of hospital for as long as I can...It's a pain in the bum but I don't think there are many old nurses out there that don't have some back problems...I will wear heels for the wedding by hook or by crook an outfit dosn't look right without them does it...I can rest next day...how is your new camera going...I love mine and keep it in my handbag just in case...hope you are having some signs of spring...we are cooling off a bit here now at night even if we have a hot day...it will be better when the daylight saving ends one hour less sun to deal with...the problem here with it is that when in the evening it should be cooling we are getting our hottest time so the house dosn't cool down...roll on winter

We haven't heard of banana liqueur either, don't think you can get it in devon we are very behind the times down here......Glad you liked the sunset Judith.......now that is one thing we get a lot of down here "BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS"..........Glad you enjoyed your trip away & hope to see another painting soon on your gallery.

Need a stiff whisky now ? back from the warmth to the cold !! and more snow coming we are told. Banana liqueur must be tasty.

What a lovely weekend you must have had in Madeira...banana liqueur sounds gross...I think a computer programme is needed for computer art looks like too much hard work to me...but the young fella who has recently joined if that's who you mean...he works in West Africa and I think it's a means to an end and he usually paints...some nice stuff though...what's it like living in Bavaria? seems that you can get around from there and how's your new camera going? so many questions hope you are well and your ground soon defrosts

Madeira? love it...hope you enjoyed it...did they foist the banana liqueur on you?
