First commission experiences

Just curious to know the thoughts of artists when they received their first ever commission. How easy or nerve wracking was this for you and how did you handle it? Was the final work acceptable to your client or did you have to make changes? Has the experience stopped you doing future commissions?

Well a little apprehensive as to whether they liked them. I didn't charge much for the local commissions and I thought if they didn't like them they wouldn't pay - but they loved them. Funnily enough I didn't get much interest around the area. I thought I would get more because there are a lot of pets around here.

Sounds great adele. Were you not nervous at all ?

I used to provide a painting for Cat Protection as a prize on their open days. Whoever won provided me with a photo of their pet and I worked from that. There were an awful lot of cat protection staff who seemed to win! Did some local commissions of pet portraits . They seemed very happy - didn't charge much and donated the proceeds to the local animal rescue centre. All on an amateur level.
