Edward Wilson

Recently I've discovered a number of books about one of Captain Scott's companion, Edward Wilson. Doctor, naturalist, all round good egg by all accounts and outstanding artist the illustrations in the books cover his work from an early age to his watercolours completed shortly before his death alongside his companions on their return from the south pole a hundred years ago. Today the originals fetch a small fortune but what fascinates me is how he managed to complete watercolours in sub zero temperatures risking frostbite within minutes of removing his gloves, and on an earlier trip completing work despite suffering snow blindness working to descriptions given him by Scott as he painted. Now that is dedication and I struggle to sketch when its a bit damp!
