Dull England

I had everything prepared on Friday to start a new painting. Board primed and everything ready for Monday. But today was so dark, we had to have the lights on all day. I have daylight simulation bulbs in the studio, but nothing is a substitute for the sun. I'm working on a portrait with pale skin so I want to be a subtle as possible so I need a good light. So I've reinstalled Windows on the PC instead, a job that I've been putting off for months. I was watching an interview with Lucian Freud where he said his favourite light was high cloud and that nothing will ever look as bad as it does in the sun. I hate it when you finish a piece and notice that all the colours are wrong only when you deliver the work.
