Beautiful ballet

A Christmas Carol, not your typical ballet! Last night most of the TAPC team went to the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury to see A Christmas Carol performed by the Northern Ballet Company. I wasn't quite sure how they would interpret this well-known story into a ballet - but it was fabulous! There was hardly any dialogue; everything was expressed through dance and song. As a ballet and musical lover myself I found the whole concept amazing - that they could tell a whole story (usually is all dialogue) through dance and a few songs was incredible! The way all the dancers moved was phenomenal, when the men lifted up other dancers they made it look so effortless, as though a person was made of Styrofoam! They also had two very comedic characters, the master and lady of the house (Mr and Mrs Fezziwig) . In the performance the couple host a Christmas party. I will just add that the Lady was dressed in a fat suit for the entire show! The Fezziwigs provided the comic relief in the story and danced horrifically, falling about the stage knocking into people, which was extremely amusing! This must have however taken great skill; to learn all the moves properly then to do it all the wrong! Overall I thought that the way they executed the dancing and incorporated it into the story line was astonishing. I would definitely recommend it to any ballet lovers! We also went for a pre-show dinner at Deesons, which was delicious. Deesons is a British restaurant in Canterbury and has a very cosy feel to it. The presentation of the food was beautiful; it made me reluctant to eat it! But the food was delicious and beautifully cooked, I had gammon and mash, it had the most exquisite sauce on it, which was so flavoursome, it's making my mouth water just typing about it! It was lovely having everyone all together and not in separate office spaces! I am looking forward to starting a TAPC ballet group! Coming to theatres near you very soon! I think we could start a new business! Millie
