Hello all, I am new not only to this site but also to taking time to try a little art. I began to compose my idea`s at the start of last year 2009 after a conversation with an Artist friend, she offered to allow me to sit with her one day a week, when I could find the time, as I still worked, in order that I could discover if I had, from my point of view, any artistic talent or not, I subsequently passed 18 or so days with her and found myself introduced to the medium of Pastel, this year I have managed yet fewer days but did do a little work at home and some on holiday, as I have retired from most of my, money generating work, I wish to explore the mediums and my ability to produce something that will be a pleasure to achieve. I greatly enjoy the time spent learning to use this medium and have a few pictures that would be happy to offer for others to pass comment, I would also very much welcome any contact with other, learning or competent artists that feel they might offer help and guidance herewith. Now I will try to upload a picture recently composed after a holiday on Gozo a sister island to Malta, where we visited a small bay called Ramla Bay during a ` bit of a blow` this gave a very interesting aspect to an otherwise small sandy bay, this view is of one corner before the sandy beach which I felt offered a better subject. Look forward to comments. Best seasonal regards to all out there. Chris.

Hi Francine no link just their style...when European artists of old were containing the whole picture within it's boundries they found, when discovered that Oriental artists swept beyond the canvas or paper...it was taken up by some brave soles and the Impressionists...not a lecture Francine just about the only thing I can remember from art history classes which I might add didn't last long...there will probably be some books around about it ...hope my memory is as good as I think it is...anyway I still like your Amarylis the way it is...an I also felt although probably mean't as constuctive criticsm you had a babtism of fire...so welcome this really is a great and friendly site

Hi Francine look on this one as oriental style they paint right off the page and leave no clear edges I think it's lovely

Why do most photographers insist on cutting off bits of flowers, buildings etc? For me this spoils the picture. I hate it as the impression it gives to me is that the flower has been mutilated. With buildings I feel that, for example, the chimney has been cut off because it is so cute or beautifully designed or broken... I wish photographers would consider the viewer when composing the shot. I have been involved in photography since before colour film, in the days when coloured photographs were coloured with watercolour, an airbrush and various sable hair painting brushes, so I do know a bit about it.
