Hulme End is a hamlet 3 miles from Hartington, and over the Staffordshire border. It attracts walkers and tourists nowadays as it is at one end of the Manifold Way, an 8 mile footpath on the trackbed of a narrow gauge railway that used to transport milk from the farms along the Manifold Valley to the main line. The old station building is now a visitor centre and tea room. The Manifold Inn is a 200 year old coaching inn at the edge of the hamlet, and caters to tourists, walkers and campers from the large camp site opposite. After seeing my paintings at the Hartington Primary School exhibition, the owners commissioned 25 of my paintings of local scenes for its guest bedroom walls. The painting of the inn in winter was done for their website, and the hawk-eyed amongst you will notice that a car has clipped the wall on its way to the car park. Just a bit of the collateral damage loose painting can cause!
