A Grand National Picnic

A Grand National Picnic

Though it is now several days since the last horse has been past the post, I thought I would let you all giggle at the sketch I made whilst in less than sober condition. My friend and I thought we would meet up in Greenwich for a "Grand National Picnic", in honour of the race, so we each brought a bottle of champagne (well, it was the Grand National after all), some yummy food and met up at the Cutty Sark for 1pm. We discussed the form (like we knew what we were doing) and placed some bets...I was a dismal failure, my friend made 4th place.... and headed to the park for an afternoon of sunshine. It was a lovely day and we had a great time with our picnic. There was prawns, salad, some cold Portuguese savouries and lovely cheese to enjoy. After finding out who won from my friend's husband (aren't mobiles great) and collecting the winnings, we ended up in the bar just near the park for cocktails. It was from here I sketched my picture of the park's entrance looking up at the Observatory. At the time I thought I was doing wonderfully well but in the cold light of day its a bit all over the place. I have never been able to get perspective quite right on buildings but I am most ashamed of my trees. When I was young, and dragged across the Australian countryside on the annual road trip, I was very good at sketching trees. Now I fear I am sadly out of practice. Still I can say one thing, you are much more free in drawing when there is alcohol involved.... or, at least, I am. ;-)
