A belated Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to everyone! A bit late I know but better late than never. The run up to Christmas and the first week or two afterwards is pretty manic in publishing. When a four week printing schedule is cut to less than three we become a become a complete blur of activity in the office; with power cuts in Tenterden on Christmas Eve we lost another day too. We can't complain though; no flooding here and everyone in the team had electricity for Christmas day. Hope no one suffered too much, or is still suffering, from the effects of the weather lately. I have been adding downloadable booklets of features from old issues of both Leisure painter and The Artist to the Painters'Club pages for the last few months. It has been really interesting reading through these articles by some pretty well-known artists. Today I have drawn up a list of features to find and potentially upload in the coming weeks. Contenders so far include Tunnicliffe. Stanhope-Forbes, Iain MacNabb, Hesketh Hubbard, Claude Muncaster and Cyril Deakins; does anyone have any memories of artists who have written for us in the past for me to look up? We have such a wealth of information dating back to the first issue of The Artist in 1931 it is great to be sharing it in some way. Talking of The Artist in 1931- I am sure you will all have seen the competition for the chance to have your artwork on the front cover of the April issue of The Artist which will be the 1,000th issue. Take a look on the homepage for links to the competition if you haven't seen it - you have until the end of the month to enter. 2014 looks like being an exciting year for the magazines. We have new looks and new contributors, competitions, new product reviews and more to encourage and inspire you in your painting and drawing.
