Micro Canvases

Small is beautiful

After spending the last couple of years exhibiting with the art group and on my own, findings are that lots of greetings cards sell (there are always birthdays) but painting sales are at a low point (this applies to all the artists, not just me). People generally like the work but have run out of room on the walls. We tend to have less clutter in our houses now and also a lot of new builds have smaller rooms. The small canvases in the picture measure 3 1/2 by 2 3/4 inches. They look very cute on the mini easels which go with them (£1 each in the Works) so this is my offering for our November Arts Trail. If all else fails they will look great on the stall. More will get finished this week.

Really interesting, I suspect that each of these would be about an hour. I have also just started on a project to get decent files of a couple of the paintings and get them done as prints onto canvas, I find that a lot of people don't appreciate the difference between a print and original (or it doesn't bother them) and they would rather pay the price for a print. Maybe I'll do another blog about that when I have got a bit further with it.

Thanks Annie. I used to do original paintings on small canvases, but would only give the subject one hours work. The most profitable way was to make a really good painting, make prints of the work and mount them onto the canvas. Did some last year for Christmas and they make a great little gift.

Dear John, so sorry it has taken me this long to comments, missed your mail. I am thinking of charging £11 for the bigger canvases and £8.50 for the smaller ones. Not a huge profit, but if it gets some things moving that will be fine. I am also aware that the novelty value will bring people to the stall at the arts trail.

Oh mistake, You purchased easels at a pound each. How much are you charging for these? as I have sold this type of work myself.

Hi Annie do i understand you are charging £1 each for them??

Thanks Margaret, I will be honest, I think they take almost as long as painting the full sized version, I am working on a few at a time though. They are great sketches if I do want to paint the full sized ones.

They look good Annie, you must have some patience to paint these!!
