This gateway, in Indo-Saracenic style,was completed in 1924, to commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Mary in Bombay in 1911 on their visit to India. In 1947 India gained independence and the last British regiment to leave, marched through the same gateway, to board their ship for the return journey home !
