Tokyo, Japan. 76x56cm, Watercolour on Arches rough, 300g. Tokyo’s premier Shinto shrine is a memorial to Emperor Meiji and his empress Shoken. The Torii is Japan’s largest entrance gate, made of 1500-year-old cypress pine trees. The Shrine lies in the heart of a wide garden with impressive tall trees providing lots of shaded areas. I visited this place very early in the morning and the entrance to the shrine was just reached by the first sunlight. Only a few people had been around. I was touched by this magical place!
